Viewed by large number of families till date and still considered the  face of tamil small screen industry but it lost its charm as of late due to the reasons quite obvious to everyone- Overkill of mega serials. The channel currently hosts nearly 20 mega serials (PHEW!) and a few weeklies. Other than this, Sun TV hosts  Game shows, Newscasts, Songs, Trailers, Movies and film related events.

SS music showcases the face of 21st century Indian youth. The shows are unique to one another its ‘Devil may cry’ attitude could be a vital reason for its uprise in the past few years. Some of the negatives could be that the VJ’s are going overboard with their funky nature and end up giggling all the way in English to an average caller in phone. It looks embarrassing sometimes and funny in a while.

Best native tamil channel to say the least, with reality shows, game shows of different genre as its core, Star Vijay shines like a star of its own. It is the mother of some highly successful shows like ‘Jodi No.1’, ‘Kalakapovathu Yaaru’, ‘Super singer’ etc., and it's VJs' are the best in business. Some may argue these shows are a direct import from their North Indian allies but all in all its an industry first in South India.

It’s the one and only non-native tamil channel in top 5. But it has a great tamil feed, which is more than enough for viewers to stop and take note.  The genre of infotainment is always a double edged knife, people may get easily bored of the content if they find its going too chewy or bland. NGC knows the knack of keeping things simple yet engaging, resulting in a successful venture. ‘Taboo’ is the perfect example for this stake and it is certainly not a series to be missed.
Discovery channel is the first infotainment channel to offer tamil feed and it has flapped its wings as a native tamil channel in the past few years. It hosts programs of sheer class and knowledge, which makes a technological marvel be easily understood by an average bloke. ‘Man vs Wild’ can easily be regarded as the channel’s star performer and sometimes it looks as if Discovery is going overboard with survival based series which includes ‘Man vs Wild’ itself, ‘Man women wild’, ‘Survivor Man’ & ‘Dual Survival’. Discovery Channel holds the edge in tamil small screen industry by a skin of the teeth margin over NGC.
