CONTENTS:

                      Contains each and every bit of details about rails running all over india.  It offers e-ticket booking facilities for rails and flights as a primary business model, along with tour packages, hotel/ cottage reservation and cab booking facilities. Its maintained by Indian Railways, obviously.

ACTIVITY FREQUENCY:

                  Its completely automated although certain parameters like change / delay in train timings are updated in a frequency suitable only for a government sector.

SOCIAL NETWORKING:

                             It boasts a facebook page. Wait it ends here. It is not active now and the last time a post was posted on Aug 28.

FEEDBACK SYSTEM:

                             Never really wanted a system to pin point the flaws. But there is a something for orthodoxy reasons, which is a far cry to be called as feedback system.

GLOBAL PRESENCE:

                   Being a Indian govt subsidiary it is not expected to cover other regions. So I’m giving it a complete 10 or say pass..         

MEMBERSHIP EXPERIENCE:

                   Anyone who is associated with this site can easily say, “Membership Experience?, oh you must be kidding”, this round offs the arguement. But it has enormous scope to be developed as a user friendly site.       

STYLE:

                   Boxy, uninspiring, drastically slow rendering or in other words, designer of this site must have read his handbook in reverse.  

Ad PRESENCE:

                   Overkill and bad placement of ads’ are plainly visible throughout the site. Overlapping of ads’ is also a major irritant in many cases.        

MOBILE VERSION:

                             Surprisingly it possess a decent mobile version, which is simple and vibrant with less clobbering by ads’.

TRAFFIC RANK & PAGE LOAD:

                             According to alexa.com irctc.co.in ranks 34 in India, 503 globally with page load time of 2.849secs. Load time may look decent, at least theoretically because the site is almost unusable in peak hours. I wonder why this system is never reverted for a better performance for years.
